Malleshwaram Cup basketball from January 24

A total of 14 teams will be seen in action as the Malleshwaram Cup inter-college invitational basketball championship for men and women kick-starts on January 24. The floodlit tournament, organised by the Dr CN Ashwathnarayan foundation, will be held at Bharath Sports Union at the Malleshwaram Grounds.
On the sidelines of the tournament proper, there will also be a slam dunk competiton that is expected to pique the interest of the crowd with national team stars Arvind Arumugam and Anil Kumar BK vying for the top prize of Rs 10,000.
Speaking at a press conference to unveil the trophy, Ashwathnarayan, MLA of Malleshwaram said, “The tournament will follow a league-cum-knockout format and there will be a total prize money of Rs 1 lakh.”
He added that with this being the inaugural edition, the success of the tournament and support from various institutions could make it an annual event. “We definitely want to make a yearly tournament but for that we will need support from the various colleges participating.” The final of the tournament is scheduled to be played on January 29.
Teams: Men: Jain University, St Joseph’s College of Commerce, MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology, RV College of Engineering, PESIT, Presidency College, BMS College of Engineering, Sindhi College.
Women: Jain University, St Joseph’s College of Commerce, Mount Carmel College, RV College of Engineering, BMS College of Engineering, Sindhi PU College.
