Karnataka begins well
Karnataka teams posted victories in both the men’s and women’s sections of the 63rd senior National kabaddi championship here on Tuesday.
The men’s team, led by raider Prashanth Rai (12 points), powered his side to a 27-22 win over Uttarakhand.
Karnataka emerged unscathed after a horrendous start, when it suffered an ‘allout’ in the early stages of the match.
From here, Rai — who plays for Telugu Titans in the Pro Kabaddi League — and catcher Rajaguru (4 points) took over.
The home side led 21-18 at the end of the first-half, and effectively slowed down the pace after the restart to stall all comeback attempts of Uttarakhand.
In the women’s section, Karnataka proved too good for West Bengal. Sushmita Pawar (8 points) took out the Bengal ‘antis’ with ease, giving the fans much to cheer about.
The results:
Men: Karnataka 27 bt Uttarakhand 22; Andhra Pradesh 26 bt BSNL 23; Services 53 bt J&K 8.
Women: Karnataka 22 bt West Bengal 14; Haryana 65 bt J&K 5.
