Hammers storm into final

Jan 18, 2017, New Delhi, DHNS
Haryana Hammers continued their dominating run to storm into the Pro Wrestling League final with 6-3 victory over Jaipur Ninjas at the KD Jadhav stadium on Tuesday.
Jaipur was off to an explosive start when Georgian wrestler Jakob Makarashvili beat Haryana's Sumit Sehrawat 10-0 in the 74 kg men's category. Ritu Phogat made it 2-0 for Jaipur in women’s 48 kg with a dominating 8-0 victory over Indu Chaudhary.

Russian grappler Magomed Kurbanaliev turned things around for Haryana with 5-0 defeat of Jaipur's Vinod Kumar Omprakash in the 70 kg men's category.

Kurbanaliev staved off strong resistance from Vinod in the first round, even as the referee awarded one point to Kurbanaliev for Indian’s passivity. The second round began on a similar note as Kurbanaliev was awarded a second point for passivity.

Haryana's key player Marwa Amri stamped her authority on the mat. She overpowered Jaipur's Pooja Dhanda 10-0 in the 58 kg women's category to level the scoring. The fifth bout of the evening boiled down to an exciting contest between Indian grapplers Rajneesh from Haryana Hammers and Rahul Mann from Jaipur. Both wrestlers fought hard on the mat, with Rajneesh winning by close margin 8-6 in 65 kg men’s category to put Haryana in lead.

Jenny Fransson defeated Haryana’s Kiran 8-0 in the 75 kg women's category.
In the men’s 57 kg, Sandeep Tomar again put Haryana in the lead in the dying seconds with 5-4 victory over Utkarsh Kale. Sofia Mattsson then displayed a power-packed performance against Jaipur's Betzabeth Arguello, to win by 8-0 by the fall. With her win, Haryana took an unassailable 5-3 lead.
