The Indian men’s and women’s teams also reached the final of the compound event, while the women’s team made it to the final of the recurve event.
Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Rajat Chauhan entered the finals of the compound event in the women’s and men’s sections respectively at the 19th Asian Archery Championships in Bangkok on Friday.
In the final, Jyothi will face Afsaneh Shafielavijeh of Iran, while Chauhan takes on Choi Yong Hee of South Korea.
In the compound event, Jyothi beat Song Yun Soo in the women's semi-finals via the shoot-off, while in the men’s semi-finals, Rajat (150) defeated Iran’s Esmaeil Ebadi (149).
The Indian men’s and women’s teams also reached the final of the compound event, while the women’s team made it to the final of the recurve event.
In the compound team event final, India will face South Korea. The Indian women will take on South Korea in both the compound and recurve team events.
In the men's team compound semi-finals, India (237) defeated Iran (230). Abhishek Verma, Sarvesh Pareek and Rajat Chauhan formed the Indian team.
In the semi-finals of the women's team compound event, India (228) beat Chinese Taipei (222). The Indian women’s team comprises of Jyothi, Jayalakshmi Sarikonda and Swati Dudhwal.
India's Deepa Kumari, Bombayla Devi Laishram and Laxmirani Majhi defeated China’s Cao Hui, Xu Jing and Qi Yuhong in the semi-finals of the women’s recurve team event. India won two games and tied in one to beat China 5-3.
The Indian men’s team lost the bronze medal match to Chinese Taipei in recurve by a whisker. With the teams tied after the fourth game, Chinese Taipei, consisting of Wei Chun-Heng, Wang Hou-Chieh and Peng Shih-Cheng, defeated India (Jayanta Talukdar, Atanu Das and Mangal Singh Champia) in the shoot-off by scoring a perfect 10 in the end.
Jayanta and Deepika lost their respective individual matches.
The finals of the Asian Championships will take place on Saturday, the final day of the meet.
In the 2013 Asian Championships, India won the mixed team event in recurve and compound. India also won the compound team event in the men’s section. Abhishek Verma won the men’s final in compound.
India will be looking to put up an improved performance this year in the five finals on Saturday.
