DDCA sports panel may lose its powers
Under the scanner for corruption and other issues, the DDCA is trying to ring in some reforms, including stripping the Sports Committee of some its powers, in the New Year.
The committee, originally formed to oversee the conduct of the DDCA League and the Hot Weather cricket tournament, had gradually expanded its powers in the last decade to give suggestions on the formation of selection panels and the appointment of support staff to various teams. With allegations of interference in selection matters and instances of selectors facing unpleasant situations being a regular source of embarrassment for the DDCA, several members have pressed for reforms in the Sports Committee, a 10-member panel representing the 111 clubs affiliated to the association.
Many executive committee members felt that the panel’s interference is a big cause of embarrassment for the DDCA, said a senior member of the association.
