India shock Aus; make World finals

New Delhi, Apr 15, 2016, DHNS:
Fourth-seeded India entered the World finals after shocking second-seeded Australia 2-0 in the quarterfinals of Asia-Oceania Final qualifying tournament at Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) complex on Thursday.
Japan, New Zealand and Thailand are the other teams to have qualified for September’s World Finals in Hungary.

For India, Mahak Jain rallied to beat Jessica Zaviacic 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 in two hours in the opening singles. Sathwika Sama then sealed the tie for India after posting a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Baijing Lin in two hours and 19 minutes.

India now plays Japan who beat Chinese Tapie 2-1.

In the other quarterfinal matches, New Zealand beat China 2-1 and Thailand beat Korea 2-0.
