We still have a chance, insists Vijay

England may have built a handsome 163-run lead with all their wickets intact going into Sunday’s final day of the first Test but India opener Murali Vijay felt the hosts still had a good chance of winning the match.
“Definitely we have the edge,” said Vijay after the day’s play here on Saturday. “We have got closer to their target. We still have a chance, you never know. If in the morning session we get 3-4 quick wickets, in the last session we can score 200 runs or go for the target. It’s a very interesting game ahead. We could have gone ahead of them (number of runs) but Ifs and buts are always there. As far as the effort is concerned, it’s been very good (batting performance),” he reasoned.
Vijay hoped the Indian spinners will come good in the first session on the final day pitch that’s gone slower by the day. “It’s a pretty good wicket, but it’s gone slower. There’s lot of assistance for the spinners now. Hopefully we can put some pressure in the morning session and get a few wickets and you never know… We are not thinking about what England will be doing next. As long as we take wickets in the morning… And that’s our main concern at the moment. Rather than waiting for what England will do, we have got to take wickets. That is our main aim.”
Vijay also had a word of praise for the three English spinners, who between them claimed eight Indian wickets. “They are pretty good bowlers, that’s why they are in the team,” he noted. “Obviously we have got to give them due respect. At the same time we have to be confident in our skill sets and execute that at a level where we are comfortable; not allowing them to settle in their line and length. That was the key for us. Pujara and I were trying to execute that,” he offered.
