Indian Aces keep winning
Dubai, Dec 16, 2015, PTI:
India’s Rohan Bopanna won his singles as well as doubles match as Indian Aces extended their domination in the IPTL, winning the contest against Philippine Marvericks comfortably 30-17 here on Tuesday.
In a surprise move, Bopanna was fielded in the legends singles and he came out all guns blazing by blanking American James Blake 6-0.
Agnieszka was her usual fighting self and she edged Ajla Tomlajanovic 6-4 to help Indian Aces consolidate lead.
The defending champions changed their mixed doubles pairing as Sania Mirza combined with Ivan Dodig instead of Bopanna and they prevailed 6-4 against Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Jarmila Gajdosova.
Bopanna came back to action for the men’s doubles with Dodig and they faced stiff resistance from Roger-Vasselin and Treat Huey before wining via shoot out. The Indian team won the shootout 7-2.
The defending champions had sealed the tie and the men’s singles was rendered inconsequential. But Bernad Tomic closed the contest for the Indian team on a winning note with a 6-4 victory over big-serving Ivo Karlovic.
“We’re a really strong team, and everyone wants us to lose! Fabrice called in sick with a fever today. But we’re hungry to win each time we step out on the court as a team. We’re more or less the same team as last year, with a few additions and subtractions. That said, we play to win, and are happy with our performance today,” said Saina.
