The Karnataka Olympic Association president K Govindaraj has regretted the incident wherein the media was barred from entering the Raj Bhavan, the venue of KOA’s annual awards’ ceremony.
“All of us in the Olympic Association are disappointed due to this event, but this was beyond our control,” said Govindaraj in a release here on Thursday. “I am very sorry for the inconvenience caused to you on this occasion and we will ensure such an incident will not happen next time.”
On Wednesday evening, over a two dozen scribes from print and electronic media were not allowed inside Raj Bhavan apparenly at the instruction issued by Aide-De-Camp of the governor of Karnataka.
Govindraj said that he tried to convince the authorities at Raj Bhavan but that his efforts went in vain.
“With regard to the above function (KOA awards’ function) I came to know at the last moment that only Doordarshan and Information Department are allowed to take coverage of the event held within the Raj Bhavan.
“I was honestly not aware of this development and I tried at the last minute to convince the authorities, including his Excellency to allow all print and electronic media,” Govindaraj explained.
