The stadium has now been transformed into a huge storeroom and it appears that the relief work will continue for a couple of more weeks.
According to reliable sources, the PBL and Badminton Association of India (BAI) administrators are looking for an alternative venue in the State. High on the priority list is Coimbatore.
Bharathiar University and PSG College of Technology have been shortlisted as venues and efforts are on to seek permission to stage the event there.
The event manager, DNA Entertainment Network Limited, and the STAR Sports channel personnel will soon be visiting the venues to get a feel of them. Coimbatore is also well-connected by air.
The three matches (Chennai- Delhi, Hyderabad-Bengaluru, Mumbai-Chennai) scheduled on January 6 and 7 at the Nehru Stadium may be held at Coimbatore if the event is shifted from Chennai.
Sources also said the Chennai franchise owner Vijay Prabhakaran, son of film actor Vijayakanth, was keen to stage the event in Tamil Nadu.
Hiccups

Meanwhile, the inauguration ceremony of PBL at the National Sports Club of India in Mumbai is also witnessing some hiccups as the New Year bash will be held on the premises on December 31 — just two days before the inauguration of the event.
The event manager and BAI are of the opinion that it would be a bit difficult to spruce up the venue for the mega opening because the bash will go on till the early hours of January 1.
