'A complete performance'

Having presided over India’s 14th win in the last 18 Tests, Virat Kohli termed the 4-0 series triumph over England as a “complete performance,” the one that helped his team tick all the boxes.

“Yes, it is. I would say it’s a complete performance, from the time we were put under pressure in the first game to coming back and winning the next four Test matches,” said Kohli after leading India to an emphatic innings and 75-run win which handed them a 4-0 series triumph. “And coming from behind in all four games… We lost three tosses -- four tosses including in Rajkot -- and winning three games out of that is very satisfying. As a captain, I feel it’s a complete series for us. Everyone contributed at different times. Especially the lower-order contribution is something that stands out for me in this series,” he explained.

Kohli also had a word of praise for man of the match and triple centurion Karun Nair whose brisk scoring helped India declare with substantial lead with ample time to bowl England out.

“Good thing was Karun really stepped it up close to his milestone and he didn't take too long to get there,” he pointed out. “So it gave us five overs yesterday (Monday). This game is very unpredictable, after the first session I'm sure you guys weren't talking about all this. You would have said that 'oh it's going to be a boring draw, nothing is happening' and suddenly things happen. In Test cricket a team can lose in one session and that's exactly what happened today,” reasoned Kohli who ended a seemingly unbreakable trend by emerging the man of the series for finishing the five-Test rubber as the top run-getter. The Indian Test captain’s 655 runs for the series trumped R Ashwin’s haul of 28 wickets and 306 runs. The off-spinner had won four man of the series awards in a row before the clash against England.
