Traditional rivals Karnataka and Tamil Nadu will square-off in the quarterfinals of the Ranji Trophy tournament at Visakhapatnam from Friday.
Karnataka finished second in Group B with 37 points, behind Jharkhand (39). Odisha (22) was the third team from Group B to make the knockouts.

Eight-time champions Karnataka last played Tamil Nadu in the 2014-15 season final, in which R Vinay Kumar’s men posted a massive innings and 217 runs win to clinch the trophy. Tamil Nadu qualified for the knockouts after finishing third from Group A with 26 points.

According to a cricket website, Tamil Nadu have included India stars Murali Vijay and Ravichandran Ashwin for the all-important clash. Karnataka are also likely to have the services of key batsmen KL Rahul and Karun Nair, who are currently playing in the fifth and final India vs England Test, which is scheduled to finish on Tuesday.

The Board of Cricket Control for India (BCCI) advanced the knockouts, which was earlier scheduled to start from Saturday, by a day.

Defending champions Mumbai, who topped Group A with 30 points, face Hyderabad (31) in Raipur. Gujarat will take on Odisha at Jaipur while Haryana will lock horns with Jharkhand at Baroda in the other two quarterfinals.

The BCCI also advanced the semifinals by two days. The last-four ties will be played in Rajkot and Nagpur from January 1.

Indore will host the final from January 10.
