Teamwork was key: Kanitkar
Visakhapatnam, Dec 25, 2016, DHNS

After his team produced a thumping victory over Karnataka in the quarterfinals, Tamil Nadu coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar said teamwork did the trick for his boys.
“We didn’t do anything special for the knockouts but we tried to be professional. I worked on the players knowing their respective roles well and it got us the desired result. We didn’t give extra importance to the quarterfinals and saw it as just another game. If you give importance to certain matches, it doesn’t work out in your favour sometimes. Every match is an important one,” he said.
The former India batsman said the wicket did a bit more than what he had expected. “It was a difficult wicket to bat on but those who were set were able to score.
Dinesh (Karthik) and Vijay (Shankar) dug in and forged a partnership on the first day. Rahul (KL) managed to score a half-century today. The key is to play a long innings and you will need a bit of luck also,” he explained.
Kanitkar praised youngster Krishnamoorthy Vignesh, Tamil Nadu’s standout performer of the day. “He has been bowling like this throughout the season right from the first game against Mumbai. He doesn’t pitch it short unless it is bouncing, and usually bowls in the right areas. He has been doing the right things,” he noted.
“We bowled in the right areas and the wicket also played its part. Vignesh was pitching most of his balls in the correct area. The pitch was aiding him well when he was pitching it in those areas,” observed the 42-year-old.
Kantikar said while making the knockouts was the first target he was aware about the importance of winning the title. “Knockout is the long-term target when you begin the season. But our job isn’t complete yet.
“There are two more matches. Our plan is to take things step by step. Yesterday I was saying there are still four days to go. But the match got over in two days. We believe in taking things step by step,” he offered.
