These are not the best of times for the Board of Control for Cricket of India (BCCI), which has been wrangled in a prolonged battle in the Supreme Court. The BCCI President Anurag Thakur, who is facing possible perjury charges, meanwhile, asked everyone to wait till the apex court comes out with its verdict in the first week of January.

“We all can understand the current situation is not in the best interest of cricketers and cricket but the matter is sub-judice. Everything will be clear by January 2 or 3 when Supreme Court holds its next hearing. So let us wait. Hopefully, everything will be good," Thakur told reporters during the logo launch of Pro Wrestling League’s (PWL) franchise Delhi Sultans on Friday.

The issue in question is the Supreme Court-appointed Lodha panel’s recommendations on administrative reforms in the BCCI. Supreme Court in its hearing on December 15 had said the BCCI president seemed to have "committed perjury" after it surfaced that Thakur, in an affidavit, had denied seeking a letter from the ICC stating that the Lodha Committee's recommendation to have a member of the Comptroller and Auditor General's office on the apex council of the BCCI amounted to government interference in the board.

Thakur also took dig at ICC for not including India in its working group. He, however, took part in the Asian Cricket Council meeting. "I was there at the meeting and every member felt that for a stronger cricket world, one needs BCCI. Nobody can deny or afford to leave India out of global cricket. If anyone has that in mind they should forget that. The ACC members stood by India," Thakur said.

Thakur also questioned ICC’s decision to leave India skipper Virat Kohli from its Test Team of the Year. He, however, expressed delight that off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was named the ICC Cricketer of the Year and also the Test Player of the Year.

"If India is the No 1 team and that team's captain is not considered, the ICC must look into that which I'm sure they will," he said. "The ICC could change a few things (the period for selection). It could be from January to January of every year, instead of September to September, so that the current form could be considered.”

Kohli was overlooked by the ICC selection panel as his performances during the period wasn’t as impressive as his display during the calendar year.
