South Zone clinch overall championship

South Zone emerged overall champion of the 22nd National Sport Climbing championship at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here on Tuesday.
The Southerners, with 19 topped the medals tally. They were followed North Zone (14), West Zone (9), East Zone (5), North East Zone (5) and Services (2) respectively.
Bharat Pereira of South Zone and Shreya Nankar of West Zone were adjudged as the best athlete in their respective categories.
The final day witnessed action in the Speed climbing event. Pereira claimed gold in the Junior category. He timed 11.09 seconds to beat Aman Dogra (13.42) of North Zone in the final round.
In the men’s section, Pavana of Services claimed the gold after his competitor Pema Bhutia was disqualified when he made two false starts in the title round.
Meanwhile in the women’s final, Senjam Debaladevi of North East Zone clocked 21.36 seconds to clinch gold. She beat Smrithi Singh (21.59) of South Zone in the final.
