Jain University launches sports fund
Bengaluru, Dec 23, 2016, DHNS
The JGI-Jain University on Thursday announced the launch of ‘Prayas’ -- a national sports fund programme to support future Olympians and international champions from the country.
The programme intends to aid the deserving sportspersons by providing them with education, sponsorships, equipment and international coaching. Any aspiring athlete can apply and be scrutinised to avail the monetary and non-monetary benefits.
“We’ve been supporting sportspersons for the last 25 years, we wanted to take this mission forward to ensure they excel internationally, that is one of the main reasons why we started Prayas,” said JGI Group chairman Dr Chenraj Roychand.
“I am committing Rs five crores for the corpus fund for the deserving sportspersons for the future. We want to adopt talented students from villages and schools and coach them for next 10-15 years to become champions,” he added.
Prayas will be functional from January 2, 2017.
Meanwhile, the 2nd edition of ‘My Country Run’ - a multi-category event, will be held here on January 8.
The race will have four categories -- Elite 10K (men and women), Open 10K (men and women), Fast 5K (men and women) and Cool 5K (men and women).
The 10K run will have a five kilometre loop. The participants will run through Cubbon Park and return to the stadium.
The winners purse for the Elite 10K is Rs 75,000, Open 10K Rs 50,000, Fast 5k Rs 25,000 and Rs 20,000 for the Cool 5k run.
